Top ten tips on surviving the recession

Tourism businesses in Cumbria are being advised to offer visitors the best value for money they can during 2009 to help counter the effects of the recession.

Britain's highest ranking tourism official Tom Wright, Chief Executive of VisitBritain, has given tips on surviving the recession at a special event organised by Cumbria Tourism.

There is evidence that, rather than stop going on holiday, some visitors will ration their spending on other items because they see holidays as an essential rather than a luxury, and that they may take more UK breaks during 2009.

But Mr Wright said people would be far more selective about their destination, spend longer on research to get the most out of it, and would be looking for good value for money.

Mr Wright explained that tourism businesses must ensure prices were reasonable and that the quality of what they offer is of high value and tourism businesses should go the extra mile to make visits memorable.
