S. is a milliner based in Carlisle and has been working part time whilst building up her business. She received a 50% grant to attend a summer school at the London College of Fashion. There she met other designers from across the country and acquired new techniques in the trimming and decorating of hats. These new skills have subsequently been of great value in her practice but more important has been the renewed enthusiasm for her craft. The course enabled her to renew and refresh her enthusiasm for millinary. As a direct result she has now given up her part time job to concentrate full time on her hat fashion business.
